The Tannery Arts Center is a joint project by the City of Santa Cruz Redevelopment Agency, Artspace Projects, Inc. and a local Nonprofit Tannery Arts Center, Inc.

 Staff for the Tannery Arts Center include;

George Newell, Project Director

George is a long time resident of Santa Cruz County, active in the arts as a supporter and currently serves on the Board of the Cultural Council of Santa Cruz County.  He served as County Administrative Officer for the County of Santa Cruz, California from 1979 to 1989.  Prior to his retirement from local government he worked for the County of Santa Clara where he served as County Executive.  "This project will not only support the arts community of Santa Cruz County by providing a badly needed affordable home for the arts, but it will also augment the areas tourist industry by creating a destination for cultural tourism while preserving an important part of our history.
