The Tannery Arts Center, Inc., a 501 c 3 nonprofit organization, is spearheading a Capital Campaign to build a 203-seat theater at the Tannery Arts Center, a revitalized art space at the shuttered Salz Tannery. The Capital Campaign is focused on phase III of a multi-phase project which includes the creation of live-work spaces for artists, art studios, a café, and a digital media center. Phase I is affordable live-work housing for 260 artists and their families, and Phase II is 30 art studios leased by more than 80 artists, from print makers to choreographers to sculptors. Phase II also includes the creation of a museum-quality walkthrough educational exhibit which tells the history of the original Salz Tannery and its workers. Phase III, the building of a performing arts center, is the final step in completing the project, and will be crucial in activating the space to invite public participation in performing arts as well as in the entire campus.
Building a Performing Arts Theater is estimated to cost $5 million and is scheduled to open in 2014.
